2026 Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM)
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM), an annual opportunity to honor survivors and celebrate advocates for their tireless work.
DVAM Awareness Materials
These tools are meant to help you learn how to support survivors in your community and to spread awareness of the prevalence of domestic violence. You may also consider following your local support agency on social media or reaching out to your local agency to learn how you can support them this DVAM. Find your local agency by visiting the How to Get Help tab and selecting your location on the map of Missouri. This will provide you with a directory of agencies in your region.
Light the State Purple
Join MOCADSV in lighting communities around the state purple for Domestic Violence Awareness Month. You can do this by requesting businesses and city buildings to change their outdoor lighting to purple for DVAM. If your community partners will only allow the colors to be changed for one day, ask that they change them for Purple Thursday on October 22, 2026. If your community participates in Light the State Purple, tag us on social media and use the hashtag #MODVAM.
MOCADSV releases multiple research publications each year, including the annual statewide and regional Statistics Sheets. This resource provides an overview of services provided to domestic and sexual violence survivors throughout the year in an easy-to-understand format. Find the 2024 statewide and regional Statistics Sheets by clicking here, or visiting the research tab of our website.
Purple Thursday
The third Thursday in October is Purple Thursday. This year, Purple Thursday falls on October 22. This year, MOCADSV is gathering photos of survivors, advocates, and supporters of the movement to create a statewide collage.
How you can participate:
Submit a selfie of yourself wearing purple using the form below. MOCADSV reserves the right to reject your photo.
