Federal, State, Local Governments Respond to COVID-19

As things are rapidly changing in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, coordination between government agencies and nonprofit social service providers are vital for communities. Listed below is guidance from federal, state, and local governments.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has a resource page with guidelines for individuals, schools, workplaces and community locations.

The Department of Labor has issued guidance regarding the Families First Corona Virus Response Act. The law goes into effect April 2, 2020 and will remain in place until the end of the year. The law firm, Mintz Levin, has released a summary of the law and a list of FAQs.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services is operating a 24-hour Missouri Novel Coronavirus Information Hotline (877-435-8411) and virtual chat assistance. DHSS also has a resource page with Missouri specific COVID-19 updates.

Governor Parson has requested that President Trump approve a major disaster declaration for the entire state of Missouri to provide federal assistance for state and local COVID-19 pandemic preparedness and emergency response efforts. Governor Parson has also issued executive orders relating to COVID-19.

Missouri’s 114 local public health agencies operate independently of each other and are independent of state and federal public health agencies. The local agencies work directly with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services to deliver public health services to the communities they serve. Local public health agencies are leading efforts in responding to and preventing further spread of COVID-19.

Some local municipalities and county governments have instituted more stringent guidelines than the statewide social distancing and stay-at home order. These local orders are scheduled to be in place until mid-May.
