New Missouri law designates Missouri's State Dogs

The result of dramatic compromise by legislators, two Missouri laws go into effect on August 28 to designate an official state wonder dog and a state historical dog. “Jim the Wonder Dog,” now officially known as, “Missouri’s Wonder Dog,” was known for predicting the future—he chose the winner of the 1936 Baseball World Series and seven consecutive Kentucky Derby winners. “Old Drum” was the inspiration for the closing argument in a 1870 U.S. Supreme Court case that determined a dog is “the one absolutely unselfish friend that a man can have in this selfish world.” For full details on all new Missouri laws addressing domestic and sexual violence, go to MCADSV's New 2017 Missouri Law publication.
