Companion animal grants available for domestic violence shelters.

A partnership between RedRover and Sheltering Animals & Families Together (SAF-T)  has made a limited number of grants available to domestic violence shelters to build on-site housing for pets of survivors.

Research continues to show that perpetrators of violence often display abusive behaviors to household pets. Research also indicates that women will often stay in abusive relationships longer out of concern of what will happen to their pets if and when they leave. Unfortunately many shelters are not equipped to safely house companion animals.

These grants will be offered on a one-time basis, with the intention of bridging the gap in resources for domestic violence shelters to offer companion animal services. Application deadline is November 15, 2012. Funding decisions will be made within 30 days of deadline.
